Apple Urges All iPhone Users to Update as iOS 26.0.1 and iOS 18.7.1 Fix Security Flaw

Apple has released iOS 26.0.1 and iOS 18.7.1, urging iPhone and iPad users to update immediately after patching a newly discovered security vulnerability in its mobile operating system.

Both updates address the same flaw in Apple’s FontParser component, tracked as CVE-2025-43400, which could cause unexpected app crashes or memory corruption if a device processes a maliciously crafted font file.

Security Risk and Expert Warnings

According to Apple’s support page, the issue was resolved with improved bounds checking. While the flaw has not yet been observed in real-world attacks, experts warn it could still be dangerous.

“The flaw could be triggered by a malicious font delivered via a document, email attachment, or web content, and may lead to unexpected application termination or memory corruption,” explained Adam Boynton, senior security strategy manager at cybersecurity firm Jamf.

Sean Wright, head of application security at Featurespace, described the vulnerability as “relatively low risk” on its own, but warned that memory corruption could escalate to more severe exploits such as code execution or privilege escalation.

Bug Fixes in iOS 26.0.1

Beyond security, iOS 26.0.1 brings welcome relief for users who reported problems after upgrading to iOS 26. Key fixes include:

  • Wi-Fi issues affecting iPhone 17 models.

  • Cellular connectivity failures experienced by a small number of users.

  • Camera artifacts in photos taken under certain lighting on iPhone 17, iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro.

  • Blank app icons after applying custom tints.

  • VoiceOver accessibility bug that disabled the feature for some users.

Apple also rolled out macOS 26.0.1 with general bug fixes, including a fix for installation failures on some M3 Ultra Mac Studio devices. tvOS updates addressed audio sync problems in certain apps.

User Reactions

Early feedback on Reddit suggests mixed reactions. Some users praised noticeable performance improvements, including smoother typing and reduced stuttering. Others remained sceptical, suggesting that more updates will be required to fully stabilise iOS 26.

Apple is already preparing to release iOS 26.1, which is expected to deliver additional fixes.

Devices Eligible for Update

  • iOS 26.0.1 is available for iPhone 11 and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd gen) and later, iPad Pro 11-inch (1st gen) and later, iPad Air (3rd gen) and later, iPad (8th gen) and later, and iPad mini (5th gen) and later.

  • iOS 18.7.1 is available for iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd gen) and later, iPad Pro 11-inch (1st gen) and later, iPad Air (3rd gen) and later, iPad (7th gen) and later, and iPad mini (5th gen) and later.

Why You Should Update Now

Although the flaw has not been exploited, cybersecurity experts agree the risk is serious enough to warrant immediate action. Boynton recommends updating “at your earliest convenience” to prevent potential disruptions or attacks.

To install the latest update, go to Settings > General > Software Update and download iOS 26.0.1 or iOS 18.7.1.
