Pornhub Warns Premium Users Of Potential Hacker Emails After Data Breach

Pornhub has issued a warning to users following what it describes as a recent cybersecurity incident, cautioning that some customers may be contacted directly by hackers in the coming days.

The alert applies specifically to Pornhub Premium subscribers. While the company says no passwords, payment details, credentials, or government issued identification were exposed, it has confirmed that highly sensitive data was taken. The stolen information includes users’ search activity and video viewing history, linked directly to their email addresses.

In an updated notice, Pornhub said it is aware that the individuals responsible for the breach have threatened to contact affected users directly. Impacted customers may therefore receive emails claiming the sender has access to their personal information.

Pornhub has linked the incident to Mixpanel, a third party data analytics provider that experienced its own cybersecurity breach in November. Mixpanel has disputed this connection, stating that no Pornhub data was involved in its incident. The source of the compromised data remains contested.

Security experts say there are three types of emails users should now be on alert for. The most serious involves potential contact from ShinyHunters, the hacking group believed to be in possession of the stolen information. For Pornhub Premium users, this represents a genuine risk, particularly if attackers attempt blackmail or coercion using viewing history.

The second type of email is far more common but not linked to the breach. These are mass sent sextortion scams that reference recent Pornhub headlines to appear credible. Such emails often claim that a user’s device was hacked and that explicit material was recorded. Even if the message appears to come from the recipient’s own email address, it is a scam and should be deleted.

The third risk involves phishing attempts impersonating Pornhub or one of its partners. These emails may warn that an account has been compromised and urge users to click a link to reset their password or view an update. Pornhub has stressed that it will never ask for passwords or payment details via email and that any such message should be treated as fraudulent.

The company has urged affected users to remain vigilant, avoid clicking links in unsolicited emails, and report suspicious messages. While the breach does not expose financial credentials, privacy advocates note that viewing history tied to an identifiable email address can be deeply personal and distressing.

As investigations continue, Pornhub says it is working to address the incident and prevent further misuse of user data. In the meantime, users are being advised to stay cautious and avoid falling victim to scams seeking to exploit fears around the breach during the holiday period.
