Google Rolls Out Urgent Chrome Security Update—Users Must Act Now

Google has issued a critical security update for its Chrome web browser on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms to address five newly identified vulnerabilities. With cybercriminals ramping up attacks through AI-powered scams, backdoor malware, and zero-day exploits targeting Android devices, Google urges users to update immediately and complete one crucial step to ensure full protection.

According to Google, the latest update addresses three high-severity and two medium-severity vulnerabilities. Although full technical details remain under wraps to allow users time to update, here’s what is known so far:

High-Severity Vulnerabilities:

• CVE-2025-1920 and CVE-2025-2135: Both identified as type confusion issues in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine.
• An additional high-severity bug—awaiting its CVE designation—relates to an out-of-bounds memory write issue within the Chrome GPU component.

Medium-Severity Vulnerabilities:

• CVE-2025-2136: A use-after-free memory error affecting Chrome’s inspector component.
• CVE-2025-2137: An out-of-bounds memory read issue in the V8 engine.

Google advises users to manually kickstart the update process rather than waiting for the automatic update to deploy. For Windows and Mac users, the secure version is 134.0.6998.88/.89, and Linux users should ensure they update to version 134.0.6998.88.

A Critical Step: Relauch Your Browser

While updating is essential, experts warn that users must complete one additional step—relaunching the browser after the update installation. Without hitting the “relaunch” button, the new security measures won’t be activated, leaving devices vulnerable to potential attacks.

“Updating and then restarting your browser is absolutely crucial. It’s a simple step that many users overlook, but failing to do so means the patches won’t take effect,” a Google spokesperson explained.
