Google Developing AI to Automate Web Tasks with Project Jarvis
Google is reportedly advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities to create a tool that can autonomously operate web browsers to perform tasks like research and online shopping. Dubbed Project Jarvis, the initiative aims to integrate AI that can handle tasks directly within a browser, marking a significant step towards more interactive and automated AI assistance.
According to The Information, Google plans to showcase Project Jarvis as early as December, in conjunction with its upcoming Gemini large language model release. This development suggests a growing trend among tech giants to create AI-driven “computer-using agents” capable of independently managing online tasks on behalf of users.
Microsoft-backed OpenAI has been working on similar technology, aiming to develop a “CUA” (computer-using agent) that can browse the web and take actions based on its findings. Google and Anthropic, another AI research company, are reportedly exploring ways for these agents to interact directly with a user’s computer, rather than being confined to predefined scripts or narrow tasks.
With autonomous AI tools gaining traction, the technology could dramatically change how users approach digital tasks, making activities like online research and shopping more streamlined and efficient. However, these advancements also raise questions about security and privacy, as AI models become more integrated with personal devices and online interactions.
